Flame Worked Art Glass.
Bernadette Gerbe, artist.

About the artist

Since my Grandma taught me to sew at age 5, I have had my hands in one creative endeavor or another.  When I became a stay-at-home-mom/empty-nester, my creativity took on a new dimension.

Three months after taking my first flame-worked glass class, I put a studio in my garage.  Now I have trouble fitting in things like dinner and laundry!  To say I am addicted to my torch may be an understatement.

I love coming up with new color combinations for my glass creations; beads, sculptures, ornaments and door pulls.

Gerbe Glass is up and running in the center of hip, artsy Lawrenceville neighborhood in Pittsburgh!  I am often found melting glass right in the storefront window!  Stop by and say hi!

What is Flame worked art glass?

I use a torch that burns natural gas and oxygen and rods of boroscilicate glass.  The working temperature of boro is around 2200 degrees.  I use heat, gravity and a few tools to manipulate the glass into all sorts of creations.  All my pieces are properly annealed in a digital kiln for strength and durability.
